Avery’s story

At 12 years old, Avery Johnson is the youngest performer ever to compete in Circus Star. She was inspired to become an aerialist after her parents came home from a P!nk concert and showed her video from “Sober” and “So What.”

Avery is in 8th grade and is homeschooled to accommodate her training schedule. She has had to sacrifice a lot of normal kid things like sleepovers and parties so she can train or go to workshops, but Avery is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. The doctor told her parents she might not live through her first weekend and that she would struggle with regular, day-to-day activities if she did survive. Now her nickname is “The Beast” and she proves them wrong every day!

When not training, Avery likes to take yoga, acting/choreography class, ballet and go snorkeling. She also enjoys volunteering in her town. Her favorite volunteer experience so far was helping kids at the alternative school learn about becoming a circus artist for career day. Avery also has a twin brother, Carter, who is her best friend.
